What happens when the Mahabharata meets 2025? Apparently, quite a lot.
I picked up Mahabharat 2025 because someone whose reviews I consider unbiased had given it 5 stars. I have mixed feelings now, but one thing is certain—I finished it in two days. It has been a long time since I finished a book that quickly, and that itself says something.
What blew my mind was the imagination behind the idea. Taking the Mahabharata, bringing it into 2025, picking characters like Shakuni and Nakul, and then building an entirely new story around them—who thinks of something like this?
Many times while reading, I found myself thinking, what the hell is happening? And I mean that as a compliment (sometimes!). There are twists, unexpected turns and a lot of imagination packed into the story.
The book mixes mythology, history and a lot of imaginative settings. At times, though, the story moves a little too quickly and I wanted more depth and context. There were also moments when the language felt heavier than necessary.
One thing I genuinely enjoyed was the QR code at the end of every chapter. It takes you to AI-generated visuals from that part of the story. It felt like reading a book with digital illustrations and added another dimension to the experience.
I can also see this concept working brilliantly as a web series.
So, not quite the 5-star review I had imagined when I picked it up—but definitely a book that made me stop and think: who thinks of a story like this?
And for that imagination alone, it deserves credit.
