One evening, I was on a call, using the word “compounding” again and again.
From the kitchen, my mother asked: “Yeh compounding kya hota hai?”
So I asked her: “Aai, paise kaise badhte hain?”
She said simply: “Bachat karo… thoda thoda.”
True. But that’s only half the story.
So I told her: “Aai, dahi kaise jamate ho?”
She smiled. “Ek chamach purana dahi… garam doodh mein daalte hain.”
Exactly.
That one spoon slowly spreads.
By morning, the whole vessel becomes dahi.
Then I asked: “Kal ka dahi use karte ho phir?”
She said: “Haan, aur jaldi jamta hai.”
That’s compounding.
Money also works like this.
👉 Aap ₹100 bachate ho
👉 Us par interest milta hai
👉 Phir us interest par bhi interest milta hai
Even in something simple like an FD:
👉 Interest add hota hai
👉 Phir us par bhi interest milta hai
Slow lagta hai…but time ke saath difference bada ho jaata hai.
She paused and said: “Matlab jaldi nahi hota… par rukta bhi nahi.”
Exactly.
The Kitchenomics Takeaway 🍽️
Compounding fast nahi hota.
But once it starts… it doesn’t stop.
Because in the end,
“Thoda thoda jo badhta hai… wohi ek din bahut ho jaata hai.”
(Small, consistent growth eventually becomes something big.)
