A trek to Annapurna Base Camp changed the way I think about age—not through a speech, but through a 72-year-old quietly leading the way.

In May 2026, I trekked to Annapurna Base Camp.

There were 24 of us.

The average age was 58.

The eldest was 72.

I was the youngest at 46.

Every evening, as we reached the day’s destination, we clapped for everyone walking in.

The applause wasn’t for who came first.

It was for everyone who kept going.

What surprised me most was our oldest trekker.

At 72, he wasn’t trying to prove anything.

He simply kept walking.

Steadily.

Consistently.

Sometimes ahead of people much younger.

Watching him quietly changed my definition of age.

The Perspective

Before this trek, I would have called someone like him “fit for his age.”

After trekking with him, I realised he was simply… fit

Age had become an unnecessary adjective.

Maybe that’s what challenges do.

They don’t just test our limits.

They quietly reset them.
