What do boxing and music have in common?
Everything – if you know where to look.
I recently watched the web series Glory on Netflix. There’s a powerful scene where a boxing coach explains a punch… not through force, but through “sur” and “taal.”
He says the sound of a clenched fist has a melody.
And real impact happens only when body and mind move in perfect sync.
Then he says something even more interesting:
“Forget everything. Just listen to the beat. Feel it.”
The Power of Range
This instantly reminded me of Range by David Epstein —
the idea that the best problem-solvers are not specialists alone, but those who can connect dots across different fields.
That’s cross-pollination.
And honestly, this is where life gets interesting.
Some of the most meaningful insights don’t come from work alone…
they come from the intersection of work and what we enjoy outside it.
That’s what I call the Hobbyist Lobbyist mindset —
not treating hobbies as escape, but as inputs into better thinking.
The NLP Lens
As a certified NLP Practitioner, this felt like a lesson in congruence.
When your “man” (mind) and “tan” (body) align,
you don’t just execute —
you create rhythm, flow… almost a melody in your work.
Takeaway
Don’t keep your worlds separate.
Let your interests, hobbies, and experiences pollinate your profession.
Because sometimes, the best ideas don’t come from going deeper…
they come from connecting wider.
