Balance Sheet: Kitchen Ka Hisaab

One evening, I walked into the kitchen with a notebook.

Me: “Aai, aaj tumhare kitchen ki bhi balance sheet banani hai.”

Aai: “Balance sheet? Kitchen ko bhi CA ke paas leke jaana padta hai kya?”

I laughed.

“Arre nahi. Balance sheet matlab ghar ka financial photo – apne paas kya hai, kitna udhaar hai, aur asli mein apna kitna hai.”

She nodded.

“Accha… bol mere financial laadu.”

Step 1: Assets = Kitchen ka maal-matta

Me: “Assets matlab kitchen ki useful cheezein.”

Like:

*Fridge – khana bachata hai

*Gas cylinder – kitchen ka heartbeat

*Mixer, cooker, bartan

* Dal, chawal, masale, vegetables stock

Then I added: “Aur assets bhi do type ke hote hain.”

*Daily use wale — current assets

*Long-term wale — jaise fridge, mixer

Aai: “Mhanje jo useful hai aur value deta hai… woh asset?”

Exactly.

——–

Step 2: Liabilities = Udhaar & Bills

Aai: “Thik aahe… ab bata trouble kidhar hai?”

Me: “Trouble part matlab liabilities.”

*Kirana shop ka udhaar  *Fridge ki EMI  *Gas bill  *Bijli bill

She smiled.

“Mahine ke end mein paisa jaata hai… woh mujhe finance ke bina bhi samajhta hai.”

True. “Assets dekh ke smile aata hai…  liabilities dekh ke phone silent pe chala jaata hai.”

——–

Step 3: Equity = “Apna asli hissa”

Now came the most finance-type word.

Aai: “Yeh equity exactly hota kya hai?”

Me: “Simple.”

Kitchen ke total assets  minus  total liabilities

  • Jo bachta hai… woh tumhara actual hissa.

She immediately understood.

“Matlab sab becha… udhaar chukaya… jo bachega woh mera?”

Exactly.

——–

And then came the real Kitchenomics moment.

——–

Aai:  “Toh mera hissa badhana hai toh?”

Me:  “Do tareeke.”

*Liabilities kam karo  *Useful assets badhao

Then I added: “Discount dekh ke useless gadget lene se equity nahi badhti.”

She laughed instantly.

“Matlab Instagram wala 5-in-1 pineapple cutter nahi lena?”

——–

The Kitchenomics Takeaway 🍽️

Balance sheet profit nahi batata.

Balance sheet batata hai:

*Apke paas kya hai  *Apko kya dena hai  *Aur asli mein aapka kitna hai

——–

And maybe that’s the real point.

A full kitchen doesn’t always mean a strong kitchen.

——–

Because in the end,

“Financial strength sirf bharahua kitchen nahi…  balanced kitchen hota hai.”

(Financial strength is not about a full kitchen, but a balanced one.)

And before I left the kitchen, Aai delivered the closing line:

“Swiggy order kam karo… equity bachao!”
